During this time of uncertainty and isolation there have been many groups, local businesses and individuals who are using this time to make a positive change and contributions to their communities.
Heritage Mississauga would like to focus on the positive stories that highlight the fortitude and kindness that people have demonstrated towards their fellow Mississauga residents.
Following our mandate to research, record, celebrate, we would like to gather these positive stories as they unfold and contribute to the heritage of our city. When we look back on the impact of COVID-19 we will also remember the positive impact of our residents and businesses.
Some of these encouraging stories include signs and messages of encouragement that can be seen throughout Port Credit. Impressionable Gifts has displayed a reassuring message stating that “We will all overcome this.” to inspire residents.
According to The Compass Food Bank, many local restaurants have shown incredible generosity. The Brogue Irish Pub donated 200 meals while the Pump House Grill Co., Papa Giuseppe’s Pizza and Pints, and Pump Hospitality delivered almost 1000 lbs of produce and dairy products and Smoke’s Poutinerie donated much needed paper towels and toilet paper.
These businesses are supporting their community in spite of these uncertain financial times for small businesses.
Residents have made the generous offer to provide no contact delivery of essentials to residents who cannot leave their homes and children have created positive messages in chalk on the sidewalks in front of their homes.
We know there are many more examples and invite you to share your stories of kindness that you have seen as they are part of the heritage of our city and will be remembered in the times that come.
Take care of yourself, and each other, practice social distancing and remember we are apart together.
