This week Matthew welcomes Heritage Mississauga Resource Centre Assistant Justine Lyn, who has embarked on an extensive project to research Black History in Mississauga.
Justine discusses some of the challenges, and errors, that she has encountered while researching census records and archives as well as explores the records and literature left by settlers themselves that recount the experiences of Black settlers, slaves, fugitives, and freedom seekers in their own words.
We invite you to contact us at [email protected] to share your records, images, and stories of Black History in Mississauga.

#ApartTogether we continue to discover the incredible stories of Black History in Mississauga.
You are invited to email us questions you have about Mississauga and we encourage you to send a short (less than 1 minute) MP4 video of your question, which we may feature in one of our “Ask a Historian” videos.
Any questions not featured in our videos will receive a written response from Matthew.
We would also love to feature questions from young Mississauga residents who are curious about their city and will feature a dedicated video to these inquisitive kids.
