On May 27, 1918 Art Murdock purchased 105 acres along Lake Ontario in the Clarkson area, and commissioned renowned architect and designer Stanley Thompson to lay out a golf course. A clubhouse, pro shop and nine-hole course were ready for the 1922  season. The Lakeshore Country Club officially opened on August 26, 1922.

The course expanded to 18 holes in 1924. In 1925 it was renamed the Lake Shore Golf & Country Club. The clubhouse was lost to fire in 1943. The property was sold for development in 1944, and the housing subdivision was named “Meadow-Wood-On-The-Lake”. Part of the laneway the lead to the former clubhouse, and its circular driveway, remain and were named Country Club Crescent within the Meadow Wood subdivision.
