Welcome to our second installment of “Ask a Historian”.

Every week Heritage Mississauga will be taking questions about the history and heritage of Mississauga which our Historian, Matthew Wilkinson, will answer on Thursday afternoons.

#ApartTogether, Heritage Mississauga is the source for inquiries and curiosity about our beautiful city as we continue our mandate to research, record and celebrate the diverse heritage of Mississauga.

QUESTIONS THIS WEEK:

• What is the origin of the name of the island just north of the train bridge in Port Credit?
• Does our city have proof of where Indigenous peoples had their burial grounds and what became of those sites, when the Europeans purchased these lands?
• What book are you reading now and what would you recommend for reading something on Mississauga’s history?
• Last week you talked about what Mississauga means and the ancestral homeland of the Indigenous Mississaugas, how did the Mississaugas come to live at the Credit River?
• Do you know anything about this restaurant: Blue Haven on Lakeshore Road in Clarkson?
• Please provide the history of the Clarkson Cemetery, the original owners of the land and any information about the family.

You are invited to email us questions you have about Mississauga and we encourage you to send a short (less than 1 minute) MP4 video of your question, which we may feature in one of our “Ask a Historian” videos.

Any questions not featured in our videos will receive a written response from Matthew.

We would also love to feature questions from young Mississauga residents who are curious about their city and will feature a dedicated video to these inquisitive kids.
