March 8, 2021 is #internationalwomensday2021 and Heritage Mississauga would like to collectively celebrate the women, past and present, who have inspired, supported and made significant contributions to the history of Mississauga and the advancement and equality of all people in Canada.

This year the theme of #IWD2021 in Canada is #FeministRecovery which focuses on advancing gender equality and supporting an inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Government of Canada Status of Women, there are fundamental gaps in our society and a disproportionate impact of the pandemic on those who were already marginalized, vulnerable or struggling.

The COVID-19 pandemic has eroded hard-fought gains to gender equality. From layoffs to lack of child care to increased unpaid work to the rise of domestic violence, women have been most deeply impacted by the health and economic crisis.

Heritage Mississauga will be posting content about inspiring women throughout the month of March and we invite you to share stories of women who have had a significant impact on your life including women past and present, female authors, activists, family and friends, so we can share and expand the inspiration and contributions women have made in our lives.

#ApartTogether we #ChoseToChallenge and participate in the #FeministRecovery.
