ABOUT THE ARTIST: NISREEN ASKAR

Nisreen Askar is a multidisciplinary a Mississauga-based Artist who aspires to share her creativity to highlight the beauty of her community through her artwork, live painting events. murals, and art workshops.

Nisreen studied Fine Arts at Sheridan College and graduated with Honors and has a Visual Art Diploma from the ICS Canada. Nisreen is a member of the Art Gallery of Mississauga, the Mississauga Arts Council, Visual Arts Mississauga and Heritage Mississauga. She has participated in many group and solo exhibitions and has received numerous accolades and awards. She is interested in abstract and impressionism styles in different mediums, including oil and acrylic painting, and is inspired by beauty of nature.

Artist Statement:

My love for arts, colours and the incredible beauty of the natural world around me continually inspires me to express my ideas, impressions, observations and feelings through the playful use of paint and mixed media. I began my journey from early childhood, where I was fond of arts and creativity, and I realized that my favorite pastime was creating beautiful paintings.

Art to me is sacred as it gives me an opening to explore the manifestation of energy, boldness, beauty and love for life. My painted reflections of beauty provide a sense a emotional connection to the world around me. I primarily focus on color and light in my work. Experimenting with color and texture allows me to translate my feelings. I use bold strokes together with a loose style in my paintings using brushes, palette knives or even my hands to express mood, movement and the rich beauty of my subject matter.

My vision is to create beauty and to invite the viewer to experience an appreciation for nature, colour and memory.

Trazos Latinos 2026: Essence in Motion

Essence in Motion explores the idea that nothing truly essential is still.

Across geometric patterns, shifting skies, fleeting birds, colorful flowers, powerful waves, and expressive faces, the works in this exhibition reveal movement as a fundamental condition of form, life, and identity.

Each piece captures a moment of transition. Where structure meets fluidity, and presence becomes transformation. Together, they invite viewers to experience essence not as something fixed, but as something continuously unfolding.

The Shape of What Was Shared
Featuring the work of artist Jennifer Morley

March 24 to April 30, 2026

Heritage Mississauga presented a solo art exhibit by Jennifer (Jenni) Morley to The Grange. These works represent an evolving practice shaped by years of teaching and exploration; many pieces began in the classroom, fueled by the energy of shared discovery.

A Toronto-born artist and life coach with deep ties to Mississauga, Jenni’s work is an extension of the “creative sanctuary” she provides her students. Specializing in meditative traditions like watercolor, sumi-e, and relief printing, her art invites the same stillness and curiosity she fosters in her mindfulness-based workshops. Jenn is also the founder of Kaleidoscope Art Studio, a long running creative hub in Streetsville, Mississauga, where she taught and inspired students aged 9 to 80 for many years.

The WOODLOT

Heritage Mississauga presented The Woodlot: A Photographic Journey into the World of Sawmill Sid – a powerful new exhibit by award-winning Mississauga photographer Stephen Uhraney.

Step into the world of Sidney Gendron, a Métis entrepreneur and environmental champion based in Lakeview. Known as Sawmill Sid, his mission is to breathe new life into discarded wood—turning fallen and forgotten trees into breathtaking public art, architectural features, and community legacies.

Shot over four years, this intimate exhibit captures the beauty of craftsmanship, sustainability, and community spirit through Uhraney’s signature storytelling lens.
