Local author remembered
Remembering Verna Mae Weeks (1919-2016)

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of respected author, historian and long-time former Mississauga resident Verna Mae Weeks on March 16th, 2016.

Verna (nee Denison) was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Roy Weeks, and leaves behind two children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna is fondly remembered by many friends in the community. Remarkably, Verna recorded her stories and memories, as well as captured the spirit of local history, in seven remarkable books:

“My Villages of Mississauga” (1986), “Lakeview: More Than Just Land, Volume One” (1990), “Lakeview: More Than Just Land, Volume Two” (1990), “Lorne Park: Dreams of Long Ago” (1993), “Port Credit: A Glimpse of Other Days” (1995), Cooksville: Village of the Past” (1996), and “Erindale: the Pretty Little Village” (1999).

In 2000 Verna was the recipient of the MHF Heritage Award for her exceptional work in preserving and documenting Mississauga’s heritage.
